So now i have to decide which amp to go with, but it's hard to choose judging by sound clips only. ![]() I know it's said to be a Sound City amp for the cleans and el34 JTM-100 for the dirtier parts on that album, but the 100JH was very satisfyingly close to those tones, to my ear at least - i think it did both very nice. I know people here say that the Metros are far better than that, but i am really hooked on those tones. I recently took a listen to the Guitar World Hendrix instructional DVD's where Mr. (From the big, round, warm bold ones, as in the title track over the sparkling tones (one rainy wish) to the chiming, biting but in the same time full bodied tones of little wing, you got me floatin, castles made of sand. In essence i want ONE amp that covers as much Hendrix ground as possible, especially the Axis album tones. On the other side, i suppose there's no way around a 100 watter if you want THAT tone. (is the last statement true?) I wouldn't have the $ to go with good NOS tubes and buying new tubes every month also isn't what i'm after. What makes me shaky about the 100 watters is - it's twice the tubes, it's bigger, heavier, louder (though not by much - probably no more than one notch on the Hot Plate) and it supposedly eats modern production tubes very very fast. Roe got me into considering a 100w build too, which i didn't even dream about before considering the kit route. ![]() So i started to think about a kit or separately sourced parts for a build that someone with some experience would build for me. For a long time i leaned towards a Germino Club 40, but i'd pay about 3000$ with shipping and taxes for it and that is a crazy price to me. I sold a cheapo JTM-45 clone i had and that i wasn't happy at all with and got some funds together for something more sophisticated. So i really hope for your advice, suggestions and any help guys. ![]() Sorry for the crazy long post, but it is the whole story on my ultimate Marshall pursuit and i want to get it done and get over with it (i've spent 2 years on this already).
